I have a doctorate in Chemistry and eleven years industrial experience. During my studies and subsequently during my industrial role I have coached and mentored numerous undergraduate students and graduates.
I spent a lot of time as a postgraduate, teaching secondary school children during Salters Chemistry Camps – residential courses designed to inspire 14 – 16 year olds to pursue careers in science.
More recently I have undertaken private tuition at GCSE level in physics and maths and GCSE, AS/A level and undergraduate level in chemistry where I have sought not only to improve my pupil’s subject knowledge and exam results but to help them to enjoy the subject too. I have been an approved specialist marker for AS/A level chemistry for the examination board O.C.R since 2013.
In addition, I am a sessional teacher of Functional Skills maths at Buxton and Leek College.
I have an open and friendly manner which puts students and parents at their ease and much of my work is received via personal recommendation from families who have used me in the past.

Experience: I have successfully coached numerous undergraduate students whilst in industry – I supported not only their day-to-day work, but also their research projects and assisted them with ‘Distance Learning’ modules they have had to complete during their year in industry. Most have achieved at least a 2:1 in their end of year appraisal from their university and many have continued to study Chemistry at a higher level after completing their undergraduate studies.
I have tutored in physics, maths and chemistry since 2012. During this time I have tutored students from many schools including Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Thomas Alleyne’s High School, Painsley Catholic Academy, Abbotsholme School, Denstone College, Derby High School, Sedbergh School, Derby University and prospective students of Nottingham University. I am therefore familiar with exam specifications from a range of examination boards including O.C.R, A.Q.A, EdExcel (including EdExcel iGCSE) in each of the subjects I tutor.
In 2016 two students I had tutored were featured in the QEGS GCSE Results Press Release one as one of highest-achieving students and the other as one of the most improved students as measured against national expectations.
