Information about Rosalind
After a year at the Guildhall School of Music, I went on to study music at the University of Cambridge where I received my BA. I went on to complete a performance MMus at the Royal Northern College of Music where I was an ABRSM scholar, and left with a distinction. I am currently the Director of Music in school where I teach children aged 2-11, as well teach privately from my flat in Surbiton.
I am DBS checked.

Experience: I love teaching, and my experience covers young beginners to adults. I currently work in a school where I teach music in the nursery, and up to year 6. The fact that music-making is a creative and imaginative practice is central to my teaching style. I use numerous techniques to help my students engage with what they play, using the body and the voice, strongly influenced by Dalcroze and Kodaly pedagogies. In this way I strive to bring out the best musically and technically in my students, while also developing their critical ear and creativity.
I am particularly interested in teaching flute players of all ages and abilities and beginner pianists.
With intermediate and advanced flute students I continue developing and strengthening the foundations of flute playing and the breath, while also exploring how music can be communicated musically. I am very happy to be driven by the student`s desires and aims, and will gladly support students through ABRSM exams.
With beginners, I ensure my student first learns `music` before they learn the instrument, providing them with a strong framework to enjoy playing and progress quickly later on. I love, and am very experienced working with younger children and teach music in a nursery and primary school.
I desire to make music lessons as creative and motivational as possible, and strongly believe that music making should be enjoyable.
I have conducted research into the Kodaly Method and believe that singing plays an important part in learning to play any instrument - if you can sing it, you can play it! I have also published research in the journal Frontiers which explores Dalcroze Eurhythmics from the perspective of flautists.
