Information about Alexander

My drive to teach is a commissure of three things: The desire to see my students be successful, the desire to see my students become better global citizens by improving their scientific and critical thinking skills and finally my unending passion and excitement for science.

My teaching philosophy can be summarized in six points:

Knowing where my students are before I start.
Setting attainable goals.
Expecting my students to reach their goals.
Using assessment and meaningful feedback to support them to achieve their goals.
Teaching Skills, not just rote knowledge.
Inspiring curiosity and passion for learning and the subject matter.

Currently I am looking to take on tutees within bicycle distance while taking temporary cover positions in biology within the City of London.

BSc Microbiology, University of Guelph, Canada
BEd Intermediate Science/Biology. University of Western Ontario, Canada
OCT (Ontario Certified Teacher, Canadian qualification) #672042

Availability: Evenings and weekends. I usually work during the day.

Willing to travel: 8 miles

Experience: I trained as a microbiologist for my undergraduate degree in Canada and worked in two different university research laboratories. My research led to authorship on three scientific publications in Journal of Biological Chemistry, Journal of Virology and Nature`s Scientific Reports. I have an enormous passion for science and research and have endless stories of what its like to be a scientist. After travelling the world for seven months I settled and took a science teaching job in Thailand for five months as a way to work and travel, but quickly realized that I had even more passion for education than I did pure science. I returned to Canada and volunteered full time for a year in a secondary school while applying to university education programs. In 2015 I graduated with a Bachelors degree in Education and then returned to the institution for a year of graduate work in educational philosophy. Considering the current job market in Canada, I moved to England last september and took a maternity leave coverage teaching KS3 Science at Chesham Grammar School in Bucks. I have volunteered and taught in four different schools in Canada, taught biology seminars for the University of Western Ontario in scientific literacy and taught for a year full time KS3 Biology, Chemistry and Physics at a highly reputable grammar school. This year I have taken short cover contracts in science for KS3, KS4 and A-level at Chiswick School, Burntwood School and Ricards Lodge Secondary School with a wide variety of daily contracts at schools around the city. I have also been tutoring two students preparing for GCSE and A-Level exams for the last two months.
