Experience: From my time as an exam invigilator with West Sussex County Council, I gained experience in organisation and flexibility to adapt to the needs of individual students. For instance, preparing the exam equipment and hall in time for the start of the exam, alongside instance such as a student with ADHD requiring a separate room with me acting as a prompter and supervising rest breaks. Likewise, I utilised these skills during my time as a part time tutor with Libraries Plus in Southampton. For instance, I would use the first lesson to find out what aspects of the subject the student wanted to improve and test their knowledge level, in order to use this information to adapt each lesson to the needs of the student. Furthermore, this experience taught me proper organisation, in making sure I was available for my student and would have the lessons planned and ready in time. I gained further knowledge on teaching methods from my 120 hour TEFL course, such as how to use quick fire questions to test a student’s knowledge level and how to ensure a sense of continuity from lesson to lesson by revising aspects covered in previous lessons in future ones, to ensure a sense of progress and improvement to boost the students’ confidence.
