Information about Jasmine
I am a junior doctor that has spent the last 3 years training in hospitals around Hampshire. For the past year, I have mainly been working in A&E departments. I graduated from University College London 2019 with a Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Primary Health Care with Medical Sciences. From August 2022, I will begin my specialty training as an Ophthalmic (eye) surgeon in North London.
Having thrived in the academic environment all my life, I am keen to inspire new tutees. My focus of tuition is mainly in Biology and Medicine, as they are subjects I am very passionate about and able in, yet I know put a lot of young students under pressure.
I was always top of my year throughout school in almost all subjects, but my knowledge has become most refined in Science since studying in medical school. I don`t just want to tutor you merely to boost a number/grade on a piece of paper at the end of your school year. I will train you into becoming a confident independent learner, who doesn`t need to be spoon-fed by teachers, who critiques and questions what you`re learning, who recognises the techniques which work best for you to retain knowledge, and therefore to ultimately not need a personal tutor anymore because you`ll be more than capable of seeking out the knowledge for yourself and putting the pieces together.
Having not too long ago gone through GCSEs and A-Levels myself, and after several years of medical training, my scientific knowledge is solid, and I have developed a talent for finding different methods of explaining difficult concepts and topics to my audience, whilst at the same time remaining patient and determined to ensure understanding. My approach to learning is simple: practice makes perfect. One becomes proficient in a subject by repetition. I realise though that different people learn at different paces and in their own unique styles. I am very accommodating of this, and it is very important to me that you understand what I am teaching you no matter how many times or different ways I repeat myself. For GCSE and A-Level in particular, I will also spend a sufficient amount of time honing your revision methods and exam technique. This is key to nailing exams and something I mastered from a very young age.
Furthermore, having been admitted into one of the top medical schools in the world and gone through the UCAS application process, I can advise you on how best to boost your chances of success and what admission tutors look for in their new potential student doctors, if that is the direction you`re heading towards. I offer 1-1 tutoring (for predominantly A-Level students, but GCSE students are welcome as well for any keen early starters) in the medical admissions process; this includes advising you on what you should do to maximise your chances of getting admitted, what to include in your personal statements and refining them into a perfect copy you`re ready to submit, and finally running mock interviews for you to ensure you`re 100% prepared to answer any question thrown at you in the real thing.
I do have a life outside medicine though. In my spare time, my hobbies and interests include figure skating, skiing, and scuba diving.
Availability: Available on weekdays after 6pm and all-day on the weekends.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: Work Experience Placement at Marnel Junior School - 2 weeks as a Year 3-6 teaching assistant
Year 11 Mentoring Scheme - I tutored Mathematics to a Year 7 throughout the year
Tutored a local neighbour during her GCSE year in Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics - she achieved A*s in all subjects
`Teaching` is also a part of my regular activities in medical school and as a doctor - giving presentations, explaining diagnoses and/or medical jargon to patients in an understandable way, or discussing/teaching medical topics to fellow peers. Also as a junior doctor, I mentor medical students whenever they are on the wards as well as being a guest speaker at educational events.
Between 2019-2020, I tutored 3 local students in A-Level Biology whilst working in Bournemouth, and all commented that I had boosted their examination techniques and understanding of the subject.
