Information about Matthew
Matthew is an enthusiastic teacher and workshop leader, keen to share his knowledge and experience. He offers one-to-one lessons on the French from beginner to advanced level.
His standard teaching method is to build solid foundations in playing technique and help his students develop a good sound quality. This takes place alongside studying pieces of music, with the option of working towards ABRSM exams if desired.
Matthew has Public Liability Insurance through being a member of the Musicians` un ion and also has a DBS certificate. I also have a risk assessment for working during the Covid-19 Tier 2 period.
Located in London N5, Matthew currently teaches twenty pupils consisting of a variety of ages (7-65) and abilities (grades 1-8). He currently has a few vacancies for new students - availability updated regularly.
Availability: Three vacancies for new students:
1 space on Monday morning or evening.
1 space on Tuesday after school.
1 space on Thursday morning.

Experience: Matthew is a professional freelance French player based in London. He has played with orchestras including the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra and the Glyndebourne Tour Orchestra. In the West End, he has played in Les Miserables and Doctor Doolittle.
Matthew studied for his Master of Music (Distinction) at the Royal College of Music as a Derek Butler Scholar and a Help Musicians UK Postgraduate Award Holder, with Simon Rayner, Jeff Bryant, Tim Jones and Nigel Black. He completed his Bachelor of Music at the Guildhall School as the James Anthony e Award Holder, where he studied with David Pyatt, Jonathan Lipton, Richard Bissill, Roger Montgomery and Alec Frank-Gemmill. He has also studied with Hugh Seenan, Simon de Souza and Laura Tanner.
Matthew has won awards with his chamber ensembles, including the Elias Fawcett Prize for Outstanding Ensemble with his wind quintet, Ensemble Solaire, in the final of the 66th Royal Over-Seas League Annual Music Competition (2018), as well as the Boconnoc Music Award (2017). He has performed Anthony Paynes Trio, live on BBC Radio 3, at the BBC Proms Extra Event, Composers in Conversation, in July 2016, which led to being invited to the British Society Festival 2016 as a solo artist. Other recent solo performances include Brittens Canticle III in the Barbican Hall in April 2016, and a wind quintet recital in Wigmore Hall in March 2017.
Matthew has recorded in Abbey Road with Pink Floyd on their album: Wish You Were Here Symphonic.

Matthew is a great French Horn teacher- our 9 year old daughter gets on very well and is enthused and progressing quickly. We have found him to be very accessible, available, on time and flexible. We would definitely recommend him.
