Information about Matthew

My name is Matt, I am 23, and I am from south-east London. In July 2020 I completed a 4-year MSci degree in physics from a Russell group university; Queen Mary`s University of London where I achieved a first class in my final MSci year and a high 2:1 overall. I aim to begin a PhD in 2021 but at the same time I am committed to teaching and proud to be a tutor on the Access Project (see below) for GCSE Maths and Physics.

As someone who struggled at times in school because of dyslexia, I readily empathise with students and I’m able to communicate complex ideas in a way that helps them understand.

I am fully equipped for online tutoring, with a web-cam, headset and pen touchpad to provide as close as possible an in-person tutor experience.

During my course I covered all aspects of physics; everything from classical Newtonian physics and cosmology all the way through to quantum mechanics and supersymmetry, utilising mathematics daily and completing two dissertation projects. Outside of my degree I have also completed internships at the University of Oxford and Imperial College London and have experience tutoring GCSE students.

My 3rd year dissertation project was a research project on ‘dark energy’ the unknown ‘dark’ phenomenon responsible for the accelerated expansion of the universe. My second 4th year project was even more in depth and involved utilising Python code to detect the possible presents/magnitude of a phenomenon known as ‘wedge leakage’ when trying to image the early primordial universe during the ‘Epoch of Reionization’ around 400 million years after the Big Bang.

Availability: I am available for bookings any time!

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I’m a tutor for the Access Project which is a volunteer tutoring program to help struggling students from disadvantaged backgrounds achieve higher GCSE and A-Level grades. To be accepted onto this program I successfully undertook all of the required training including safeguarding.
