Information about Jaafar
Welcome to my profile! My name is Jaafar and I`ve been tutoring Maths and Physics in the Guildford area since 2015, holding a degree in Theoretical Physics from UCL, graduating 2017.
As a born-and-raised Guildfordian, I attended Guildford Country School Secondary School, George Abbot Sixth-Form, and feel passionately about giving back to the community.
I endeavor to be able to give students struggling with Maths and Physics, the same level of understanding and academic achievement I am lucky to have myself. My success in doing this is evident from my feedback.
My aspiration, is to give students who`ve given up on Maths and Science, a second chance. And hopefully change their view of the field, growing in enthusiasm as their abilities improve and their knowledge deepens. I of course enjoy just as much teaching more able students! No matter your ability, expect to be challenged and be willing to learn when you see me.
I`ve encountered many different types of students and styles of learning. I aim to make the topic at hand feel relevant to my students, and to tie class material to subjects they might wish to pursue at university or elsewhere. Student engagement and effort increases significantly when this happens.
Time with me will be split between explaining concepts (1/4), then demonstrating examples (1/4), then practising the concepts with exercises (2/4). Syllabus specific to the exam board will be used as a comprehensive check to cover ALL material.
The focus will be on understanding and problem solving, but will move to exam-method as we get close to exams. Particular emphasis will be placed on exam-presentation in order to maximise marks given by the examiner. Past-papers and mark-schemes will be used to get the student used to the format and timing of the exam.
I place a lot of importance on commitment. As long as the student wants to succeed, I`m very relaxed and enjoy communicating my knowledge.
