Information about Mark
New for September 2024: 10 lesson revision packages - 3Hrs for Biology, Chemistry and Physics and 1hr of required practical revision.
I have over 27 years as a science teacher and personal tutor working with a range of students with different abilities. My approach to tutoring is to be as child-centred and personalised as possible to enable your child to feel confident at school and in their own science learning. My goal has always been to help students, so that they ca help themselves - which has proven successful over the years and my results contribute to my own schools success where it has been rated as one of the schools with the highest progress in the South West.
I believe the key to my approach is to fully understand the needs of students and while being a full-time teach I have an in depth knowledge of the science curriculum, the examination techniques required to get improved grades and confidence in attempting questions that may have challenged students.
As a teacher, an ex-head of Science (I now run the school timetable and responsible for assessments and examinations) I have full understanding of the best teaching techniques which are well practised and through experience, I have honed these skills to be able to identify knowledge gaps, reframe explanations to make it easy for students to bridge their knowledge.
I have free access to examination materials and an extensive resource base suited for all levels and abilities and use a range of learning strategies to suit different types of learners. I don`t believe we are just one set type of a learner, so I use a range of materials, hand on experiences (I often bring scientific equipment to the session to enable students to have hands on - concrete - learning experiences which they can build upon) and review and `test` knowledge to enable the student to see progress.
I am fully DBS checked, hold valid first aid certificate, receive yearly Child Protection (CP) training, Teacher Enhanced Effectiveness trained and regularly update my professional knowledge and skills as a practising teacher.
