Information about Sarah
I am a well-respected tutor based in the village of Copthorne in West Sussex. As a tutor I believe in holistic learning, in depth research and hands on teaching. Drawing from thorough academic training and extensive experience, I write and speak with an intellectual confidence and depth of understanding about a variety of topics.
As a tutor excellence, dedication and commitment are my mantra.
In the late 1990s I worked as a volunteer for Barnardos with Serbian refugees assisting in classes for English as a foreign language and providing a safe space where parents could come and create craft with children.
A move to West Sussex in 2005 prompted my volunteering in local primary schools to read with the children. This led to my beginning work in 2013 at a large secondary school within the SEN department on a one to one basis and taking small groups of children who had difficulty in accessing the curriculum.
It has and remains my immense honour to work with them accompanying and assisting their journey through education.
I have led anger management sessions and innovatively used drama role play to enable greater understanding of the situations our emotions may take us too. I have also taken a course entitled Autism Awareness which taught how to utilise social stories and comic strip for those who find social situations difficult. My experiences within education have been varied, insightful and wonderful whilst enabling me to gain the confidence to pursue my own path.
My teaching is focused around the child and their ability. I aim to build self -confidence, self-esteem and self-belief and from there we can watch the magic happen.
I utilise many different resources, but the actual teaching takes place on dedicated tutoring software, that it totally interactive between tutor and tutee. I aim to make learning an enjoyable experience and one that my learners look forward to with enthusiasm.
I work hard to build good tutor / tutee relationships with each and every learner and encourage laughter in all sessions. I remove the barriers of getting it wrong because to get it wrong is not a problem: that is how we learn.
Availability: My availability is updated regularly on this site but as a general rule, I am available for lessons for older learners that are perhaps flexible in their timings during the day, and available every day after school until 8pm.
I do work Saturday and occasionally Sunday if required.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I began working for a local school after several months of reading with primary school children. I went to work with secondary SEN students which I believe has set me in good stead for working as a tutor.
Deciding not to move into main stream teaching was a difficult decision to make, but I realised that what I wanted to do more than anything was work to open the English language and its foibles to children and for me, this is successfully accomplished on a one to one basis.
I love to work with individuals as children are all so different and every year and learning experience is incomparable to the next.

Sarah has made a good initial start and is working at winning over our son`s confidence as he is quite nervous. She has been very understanding and reassuring.
