Information about Robert

I’m a results‑;driven theoretical physics postdoc specialising in non‑;linear optics and chiral light–matter interactions. I develop and apply quantitative models to extract insights and solve complex problems.

What I do:

I design and implement large-scale, highly-parallelised numerical models (TD‑;DFT, molecular dynamics) on high performance computing clusters to simulate light-matter phenomena.

I analyse large datasets to identify trends and validate hypotheses.

I build and optimise physics-informed machine‑;;learning regression workflows for physical systems.

I write competitive grant proposals and author peer‑;;reviewed publications.

My blend of theory, computation, and data analysis enables me to deliver rigorous research and drive scientific progress.

PhD from King`s College London CANES (Cross Disciplinary Approaches to Non-Equilibrium Systems) - Specialising in theoretical condensed matter physics and computer simulations.

MPhys and BSc Class 1 (Hons) from the University of Leeds.

MSC Distinction from King`s College London.

BSC Class I Hons from the Uiversity of Leeds

I am happy to tutor in either maths or physics at any level including undergraduate and master`s for physics and am conversationally proficient in Italian and have a limited proficiency in French should English not be your first language.

I hold a Scouting DBS and am CRB checked.
Prices are negotiable but I will be charging in the region of:
£20 ph KS2
£25 ph KS3
£30 ph GCSE
£35 ph AS/A Levels
Up to £40 ph UG Physics

Availability: I allocate 7am to 9am every morning for my non-research work, and keep my weekday evenings free from 7pm onwards. My weekends are variable but can generally be considered to be free and available for use.

I prefer to host online sessions, but am prepared to travel if necessary.

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: I have taught both online and in person for over 10 years, including at degree, MSci, and PhD level. This has included explaining complex concepts such as advanced quantum mechanics and spectroscopy, demonstrating using high-performance simulation software, and teaching good coding practices. I am just as comfortable talking through the fundamentals of manipulating fractions to an early-stage maths whizz as I am delivering novel science at an international conference to my peers. With me, you have a teacher and active PhD-educated scientist who is committed to education and life-long learning

I have taught students across a broad range of backgrounds, levels of confidence, and stages in education. I am confident that we will find a way to make even the hardest of scientific and mathematical concepts appear easy!

I have worked as a free lance tutor in Stoke on Trent whilst sitting my A-levels. I had two tutees at the time at GCSE and year 6, the former achieved a grade C from an expected E and the latter passed entrance exams for their local Grammar School.

Have been a PAL (Peer Assisted Learning) mentor at the University of Leeds for three years where I would lead a weekly session for 10 first year undergrads in which we would attempt to solve problems or discuss underlying theory behind aforementioned problems.

I was also trained by the TutorTrust in Leeds.

Rob rescued us at very short notice when we found him just a few weeks before yr12 exams. He fitted us in and arrived promptly and prepared and left us (well, my daughter) with a much greater competence and understanding of the subjects. We will definitely book him in for support next year

Robert has been an excellent tutor for my son who is studying A level physics. My son has found the A level syllabus very difficult but Robert`s enthusiasm and impressive knowledge of his subject has helped my son enormously. Robert is personable and 100 per cent reliable. He explains complicated theories so that they can be understood. I have no hesitation in recommending Robert to anyone.

Robert is a very friendly, polite, punctual and patient teacher. My teenage son is responding well to the lessons and his maths is improving. We would recommend Robert as a maths tutor.
