Information about Amy

Hello! My name is Amy and I`m an oboist who wants to share my passion and knowledge of music with others, always endeavouring to make learning a musical instrument an enjoyable experience.

A bit about myself and my training....I studied under the tutelage of Nicholas Daniel before winning a place to Chetham`s School of Music where I studied with Valerie Taylor. I then went onto the Royal College of Music in London as a Foundation Scholar for my undergraduate studying with Christopher Cowie, David Theodore and Gareth Hulse. I subsequently decided to stay for a postgraduate at RCM under the tutelage of John Anderson. During my postgraduate I also took part on an Erasmus exchange to the Staaliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart, Germany studying with Christian Schmitt. I am also an active chamber musician, co-founding the Armartis Ensemble, and have had experience playing professionally with orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Scottish Ballet, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, English Touring Opera and Royal Scottish National Orchestra. During 2013 I was Co-Principal Oboe with Southbank Sinfonia and in June 2015 was appointed Principal Oboe of the Orchestra of Scottish Opera.

I have a Bachelor of Music with Honours (BMus(Hons)) First Class and Masters of Performance in Orchestral Performance with Distinction both from the Royal College of Music, London.

I have recently relocated up to Glasgow to commence my job at Scottish Opera.

Availability: Generally flexible depending on what my schedule is like for my orchestral job.

I am happy to travel to the student`s home but I am also able to teach at my own flat in the south of Glasgow

Willing to travel: 8 miles

Experience: I have been teaching oboe, recorder and music theory across London for the past eight years teaching people from the ages of eight to 68 and preparing students for examinations to a good success rate. I have also been a deputy teacher at Hackney Youth Orchestra Saturday School and at Ealing Junior Music School.

Usually I prepare my students for ABRSM examinations, but am open to other exam boards as well. Am able to also prepare students for music festivals and music scholarship auditions.
