I am a professional private tutor, specialising in A-level tuition. I have a First class honours degree in Microbiology and Immunology and a PhD in Molecular Biology from Newcastle University, and therefore have an extensive knowledge of biology at all levels.

I offer long-term or intensive tutoring, to suit the needs of any student. Unlike many tutors who tutor as a side-line to their own studies or a full-time teaching job, I am a professional tutor and so offer continuity throughout the academic year.

I am very patient, friendly and able to tailor the style of my tutoring to the age and learning needs of each individual student. I work through the specification in a logical way with each student, to ensure the basics are understood before moving onto the more complicated aspects of the specification. I endeavour to keep tutoring sessions light-hearted and as enjoyable as possible, as students are most productive when they enjoy their lessons!

My husband is a doctor and we have two school-aged children.

Experience: I tutor A-level Biology (AQA, OCR A, Edexcel A and B, Edexcel International A-level) and tuition takes place via Zoom. I am married to a doctor, and therefore have insight into medical school applications and a full appreciation of what is expected of prospective medics. My tutees have gained places at Oxbridge and at many different universities to study Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine (amongst other subjects).

My style of tutoring is tailored specifically to each student. Some students struggle to grasp the basic concepts and so need to be re-taught the specification, whereas others just need help converting their knowledge into effective answers, and therefore we concentrate on exam technique using topic-specific past questions. I encourage students to contact me via e-mail if they have any problems or concerns in between lessons. I am also happy to mark essays and past papers in my own time, with feedback given via e-mail or during the next lesson.

In addition to topic-specific revision, I also help students to develop study and exam skills and am happy to assist with revision planning and technique, essay writing skills, practical skill revision and mathematical skills for Biologists.
