Information about Carol
Carol BA(Hons), PGCE, SENCO Accreditation.
Having taught in mainstream classrooms for over twenty years, I have seen many children who do not meet their potential because teachers can`t give enough personal attention to every one of the many children in their class.
I now run a small tutoring centre, where children learn in groups of 1-5. In the centre, I have the luxury of being able to start where the child needs help, rather than following a `one size fits all` curriculum.
I love the moment when someone `gets it` and I enjoy tailoring a lesson to suit the pupil.
Lessons take place in a dedicated learning area, equipped with a computer for each pupil and more traditional teaching aids. The atmosphere is a calm and welcoming, and there is no one here who will hinder your child from learning.
Availability: Please see the table for current availability.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I am an English Teacher with experience in high school and primary. I studied English at Nottingham University, then did a PGCE at Manchester Poly.I love to teach using drama, novels, short stories, poetry and news reports but the most important thing is to start with the pupil`s interest.
I am happy to teach KS2 or KS3 pupils as well as adults, and I can tailor my lessons to suit people with Special Needs, Gifted and Talented pupils or people who are learning English and a second or extra language.I taught English language and literature to GCSE (yrs 7-11) for fifteen years, then taught the whole curriculum to primary (KS2) for ten years. I have also taught in a Middle School, Y5-8.
I am an accredited Special Needs Coordinator and I am happy to teach people with Special Needs as well as `ordinary` people.
I have now given up my school based work, to concentrate on tutoring full-time.
