Information about John

I worked as a researcher and lecturer in Biochemistry at Oxford University before I became a secondary school science teacher. I absolutely love teaching and my examination results and value added have been exceptional, year after year, sometimes with the entire class gaining the top grade. I have now taught in leading HMC schools for over 20 years and have amassed a huge amount of experience and expertise providing 1:1 tuition, particularly in maths and sciences. I thoroughly enjoy helping students to rapidly improve and become more confident learners. Although very goal focussed I always try to make learning fun and rewarding and am friendly and reliable.

Experience: I have spent more than 20 years teaching in leading HMC schools. I am an experienced examiner and a real expert on how to study effectively and how to get the top grade. My main subject at school is now biology but I lectured in chemistry at Oxford university and then taught it for many years at both GCSE and A level. I am hugely experienced and successful at providing individual tuition at GCSE and A level in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics and thoroughly enjoy helping students quickly improve and reach their potential. I also help students every year with medical school entry, preparation for 11+ and 13+, and with chess. I`ve also worked as a corporation tax specialist for one of the big accountancy firms, achieving prize winning scores in the ICAEW exams, and developing an expertise in transfer pricing. Behavioural economics has been an ongoing interest of mine for years and after numerous requests I now provide tuition for A level economics and A level business and thoroughly enjoy this. Other experience includes 10 years as the Director of Teaching and Learning at a top HMC school, governor roles at two schools, and 12 years as an Inspector for ISI (Independent School Inspectorate) but I have been back full time in the classroom for the past 5 years just doing what I love best! I`m happy to travel but I prefer to tutor from home as it is easy to print off exactly which exam questions are needed. Most of my students have 90 minute sessions. I offer a discount for purchasing blocks of lessons in advance and am happy to tutor via Facetime with my whiteboard when pupils are away on holiday.

John is clearly very passionate and knowledgeable about the subjects he teaches and in wanting to help his tutees reach their full potential. He is helping my daughter to understand the exam topics and thereby increasing her confidence. This is backed up with the provision of questions to work through ready for the next session. He is very friendly and approachable and keen to update me regularly.
