Information about Jeff
I am an enthusiastic, patient tutor with excellent communication skills and a real passion for mathematics. I strive to get the very best out of every students I teach. I want every student to get every mark they are capable of.
My background is in industry where I worked for over 30 years, reaching Plant Manager status. Late in my career I took a decision to leave industry and go back to University to gain the qualifications to teach mathematics. This is a decision I have never regretted.
As a teacher or tutor, to hear a student tell you they get it is a wonderful feeling and always brings a smile to my face. It makes all the hard work worth it.
I am married with two grown-up daughters.
Availability: I am now dedicated to maths intervention and tutoring work, hence my availability is most days and evenings.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I completed my PGCE in Maths at The University of Hull and have Qualified Teacher Status and Enhanced DBS.
Throughout my time as a teacher I have worked in local academies and at the local grammar school, giving me experience of working with students of different abilities. I have taught classes from Y7 through to Y11.
I have tutored a number of Year 11 students in preparation for their GCSE examinations, this includes Higher and Foundation levels. Tutees have included those that have not done as well in their mock exams as they expected and students who strive to achieve the higher 7-9 grades.
I am familiar with AQA, Edexcel and OCR exam boards. Student pass rate up to and including 2019 exams was in excess of 85%.
Each tutee I teach gets a bespoke lesson a lesson tailored to their needs. Through analysing their mock exam papers, specimen papers and/or classwork, I build a picture of what the students is good at and where their mathematical gaps are. Once I have this knowledge, I plan the lesson to bridge any gaps and get the students to practice until that weakness becomes a key knowledge strength.
My style of tutoring is two way - the tutee may be aware of areas of maths where they struggle in the classroom environment, I will listen to their concerns and plan the next lesson accordingly. I ensure as far as possible, that every tutee is prepared and ready for their maths exams.
I try to make maths fun, using a variety of techniques to get the principles across and sufficient practice to enable the student to master the topic.
I no longer work full time in mainstream education (by choice), this allows me to dedicate more preparation time for my tutees, with the added benefit of being available by phone, email or on line should any tutee need help or support between tutoring sessions.
Since I am now dedicated to maths intervention and tutoring work, my availability is most days and evenings.
Feedback For Jeff (7)
Jeff is currently helping my daughter with to help her through GCSE`s as she struggled recently during her mocks. On meeting Jeff, it immediately became apparent how organised and structured he was with his students and the detail he goes into with regards their required work streams. The most important thing for us was making sure our daughter was comfortable in his presence and that he understood quickly what she needed to improve upon. After an initial meet with all of us, we agreed Jeff was the right person. Three sessions in and I stick by that and would definitely recommend him based on our experience to date.
Very good, very very helpful and has taught my daughter a lot in a short space of time. Thank you
We are very impressed by all aspects of Jeff`s tutoring. He is very patient and easy to get along with. His enthusiasm and experience enable him to get the very best from a student and build up their confidence in weaker areas.
