Information about Amy

Hi, I`m Amy, a psychology graduate with a teaching diploma and a passion for supporting young people with maths. I am a professional full time tutor so work with around 30 students a week.

I have worked in the education sector for over 10 years, including working in schools, managing a tuition centre and as a private tutor. I have always enjoyed maths (algebra was my favourite lesson when I was in school) so my lessons are relaxed and fun. I believe it is important to not only provide support for the topics the student is currently learning in school, but also what they covered previously but never fully understood, as well as topics they have not seen before so they can feel confident when they cover them in school. I always aim to balance these three approaches to tuition.

Availability: Face to face lesson times allow for traffic, but they may start up to 5 minutes early or up to 5 minutes late.

I am more flexible during school holidays and am happy to take on more hours during those weeks.

If you have specific days in mind for your lessons, they may need to be online as I can be more flexible that way.

Willing to travel: 2 miles

Experience: The final year of my degree focused heavily on education as well as a child`s social and linguistic development. I try to use this information to enhance my teaching style, particularly with my younger students.

After graduating, I worked in 2 schools. During this time I was often needed to run activities in both literacy and maths. This sparked my interest in private tuition, so I spent the next few years working as a private tutor supporting dozens of families with children from year 1 to year 11. This venture taught me the importance of boosting confidence in students through praise and building relationships with them, as well as the impact this can have on their results.

I decided to leave self-employment for a couple of years and joined a tuition centre in Camberley. While working there I ran multiple group tuition sessions with children in both primary and secondary school, and also trained other tutors how to best support our students. However, I felt that the responsibility of running a whole centre reduced the impact I was directly making on a child`s learning, which is why I returned to full time private tuition in 2018 and now have over 30 students who I work with each week. The highlight so far has to be helping one of my students increase her grades from a 4 in her November mock exams to achieving a 7 in her final GCSE exams.

To increase my knowledge and skill as a private tutor, in 2019 I studied a Teaching Diploma in my spare time. During this venture I learnt more about specific teaching methodologies and activities to use in the classroom which I adapt to the home environment. I have also completed a level 4 diploma in working with special educational needs students (SEND) as well as a level 2 Teaching Assistant diploma.

If you are looking for additional learning for your child, I am able to provide support one-to-one as well as in small groups, whether that`s online or in your home. Let me know what will work best for you - small groups work out cheaper per student!

Amy is teaching both of my girls, year 6 and year 9. We have done a few weeks and so far, both my daughters are benefiting from having her. She is super organised, completely on top of what she is delivering, gets to know her students so that she can form a relationship with them, and keeps them focussed online. I am super happy with Amy and would highly recommend her.

Amy has been tutoring our daughter for a few years now and we could not be happier. We have been impressed with her kind and patient manner which has enabled our daughter to feel completely at ease during sessions. Amy is extremely approachable, reliable and professional. She is able to explain tricky topics in a clear and concise manner, which has helped enormously during our daughters GCSE exams. We would highly recommend Amy to anyone who is looking for a maths tutor. Mrs Lisa Brodie
