Information about Tom
Hello! I am a second-year Japanese student at the University of Edinburgh, and I`ve been dedicated to studying the language for 8 years. In 2023, I passed the JLPT N2 exam, placing in the 95th percentile. I also scored a 9 in the Japanese GCSE in 2019.
My passion for languages extends beyond Japanese. I studied Spanish throughout school, achieving a 9 at GCSE and an A* at A-Level. Both languages remain integral parts of my daily life.
I offer tailored Spanish GCSE and A-Level classes, as well as lessons for Japanese GCSE. Each session will be customised to meet your specific needs, boosting your confidence for the exams. (Please message me at least 3 days in advance with the topics you`d like to focus on!)
My teaching prioritises mastering exam techniques alongside the language itself, crucial for achieving the top grades. Additionally, I will share effective revision tricks and strategies to make your studies more efficient.
I have many resources from my own exam preparation, particularly for Spanish. These include an in-depth list of phrases to impress examiners in the oral exams (both GCSE and A-Level), and a detailed analysis of the novel Crónica de una muerte anunciada and the film María llena eres de gracia for A-Level Spanish. (Please note, I cannot assist with other novels or films for A-Level Spanish).
We will work through study resources and past papers together (speaking, reading, writing and listening), reinforcing what you`ve learned at school to give you an edge in your exams. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. I cannot wait to see you in my classes!
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: In addition to exams passed, I have formally taught Japanese to year 6 students at my school, and have taught Japanese classes to anyone in the school through a Japanese lunchtime club that I set up independently.
