Information about Vidhya
Hi future students! My name is Vidhya, I am a qualified doctor and trauma and orthopaedic surgery registrar in the East of England region. I attended the University of Glasgow on a talent scholarship and graduated with degrees in clinical medicine (BSc Hons 2015), medicine (MBChB 2017) and winning the prize for orthopaedic surgery! During my degree I spent 3 months studying sports medicine and orthopaedics at the Massachusettes General Hospital/ Harvard Medical School, and worked on research there that was published in the American Journal of Orthopaedics. Since then I have worked hard to become the best surgeon and educator that I can be.
As a tutor, I like to start by getting to know you, finding out how you like to learn, and assessing your level of understanding. From there we can work together to build your foundation of knowledge and use that base to tackle the more challenging concepts later. I am friendly, patient and will tailor my teaching style to suit you. I look forward to offering my support and helping you realise your potential, gain confidence in your studies and ultimately achieve all your academic and career goals!
Availability: As I am working full time as a surgeon I do shift work. I tend to be free in the evenings and on weekends but this is subject to a little variation.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I have 12 years of experience as an educator and 9 years of experience teaching medical students which includes a year teaching full-time as a medical demonstrator teaching anatomy and clinical skills at the University of St Andrews. I have past experience working with multiple medical school admissions teams and I have mentored numerous students and guided them to success in their applications to higher education, medical school and postgraduate surgical training programmes.
I also love working with younger learners! Prior to my medical training, I worked as a teaching assistant in primary education and volunteered as a classroom assistant in a school for mentally and physically impaired children.
Alongside my medical training, I have also worked as an assistant karate instructor at my karate school. Over the years, I competed internationally in the sport, so I learned a lot about time management and making space for important extra-curricular activities; this is something I love sharing with my students so I can encourage them to do the same.
