Information about Anthea

I enjoy working with children of all ages. I am patient and understanding. I have a good sense of humour and make learning fun, often finding unusual yet effective ways of teaching. I appreciate that children learn in different ways and I like to present subjects in as many different and imaginative ways as possible to ensure the child is learning effectively. I ran after school French clubs in the area for many years, teaching French through games, songs and role plays. The emphasis being on oral work before written work. I now teach French to 6 – 14 year olds.
I have tutored maths and English to primary and secondary aged children, up to GCSE. I have worked for the past 15 years in a Steiner School, teaching French, German, handwork as discreet subjects but then becoming a class teacher. A class teacher stays with a particular group of children from 6 through to 14 years of age and teaches the whole of the curriculum to all ability of children from SEN to gifted and talented. Children learn to read and write later in Steiner Schools so I have taught literacy right from letter recognition up to a very high standard. Children I have taught have a well developed vocabulary, are articulate and can express themselves well on paper. I have taught maths from the beginning too and find ways to develop understanding and skill in numeracy in practical and imaginative ways. The children enjoy maths with me and make excellent progress.
I am artistic and creative. I love reading. I sing and play the recorder and the clarinet. I enjoy all aspects of handwork, in particular knitting. I am interested in education and believe that there are many ways to teach children, bringing the best out of them and building their self esteem whilst improving grades. I enjoy the challenge of teaching and it gives me joy and a lot of satisfaction.

My daughter rapored with Anthea immediately. She teaches and structures the Math & English lessons very well and my daughter is really looking forward to her next lesson. I`m positive she will grow in confidence now.
