Information about Zoe

I took my A-levels in summer 2019, so super recent! I’m up to date with all that students need to be learning, and I have no trouble remembering which bits caused my friends and I the most grief! We battled through them though, and after targeting my weaknesses all throughout my revision, I came away with 3 A*s in Maths, Physics and Art. I also got 10 A*s at GCSE, in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Spanish, French, Art, English Language and Literature, and Religious Studies.

It would be fantastic to pass on my knowledge and study tips to people working through what I’ve just done. My study method was meticulous, identifying my work on points, and targeting them until my weaknesses became my strengths. I spent time linking concepts together so I knew their ins and outs. This confident knowledge and these methods of study I would bring to my tutoring.

This, of course, would be balanced with some fun and confidence boosting! You can’t spend all your time dragging through your weaknesses without reminding yourself of how far you’ve already come. As a tutor, I will bring patience, encouragement and discipline to my lessons, and gratitude that I’m able to help! I`m happy to explain a topic from scratch, or help bring clarity to a topic a student struggles with, or help a student look further into a topic than the curriculum requires to spark a genuine interest!

Availability: I’m available until 19th September this year, at which point I go to university. From then on, I’ll be available on Christmas, Easter and summer holidays.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I am currently working with my first formal maths tutee, whom I’ve been with for a few weeks now. We’re already seeing improvement not only in understanding of topics, but in confidence and methodical thinking too!

Before I began formally tutoring, I volunteered as an assistant sports coach for 6 months last year, so I built some experience in teaching. I taught both group and individual lessons, in total tutoring around 40 pupils. I would often work one-to-one with pupils who were struggling to keep up with the rest of the group, working on their weaknesses and building up their confidence until they felt ready to join the main group again. I found that so rewarding to see the children`s faces light up when they realised they were actually far more capable than they previously believed.

I was also a member of the Combined Cadet Force at school for 4 years. Part of my role in the corps was to plan and structure lessons on military subjects, and deliver them to other cadets. I taught groups up to around 20 people at a time, and in total teaching around 60 different cadets.

The purpose of being in the cadets was both to have fun and to develop leadership skills in a military setting. During my time there, I watched lots of different people`s leadership and teaching styles, and spent time trying and evaluating which ones worked best. Further to this, I loved it so much I went on a 4 month leadership course to extend my leadership skills further. I believe strong leadership is pivotal to being a good teacher, because it ensures you know how to communicate, relate to, treat and guide other people, which are all qualities a teacher needs. These skills, plus my enthusiasm and my previous teaching experience, I believe would make me a great academic tutor!
