Information about Roy
I`m very serious about teaching chemistry, and science in general, and will always keep going over a topic if a student wants to or needs to until the concepts are well and truly understood. I always encourage students to think for themselves rather than just bombard them with facts.
I was Social Secretary at college and Entertainments Officer at University as well as a professional entertainment manager (on cruise ships and in hotels and entertainment venues around the world), a radio presenter and a performer so I am able to guide and hold the attention of those I teach and lecture. I speak clearly and concisely, I am very confident in talking to, and teaching, students. I am not easily put off my stride, being able to answer queries quickly and effectively. I am able to make learning fun, using humour where appropriate, as well as interesting, by employing these abilities. These skills are very advantageous for a classroom/learning setting. I won funding from the Royal Society to attend their media and communications course which taught how to effectively communicate science to a wide age-range audience of laypeople and experts alike, training which is directly transferable to the classroom and learning environment. The skills I developed enabled me to engage with students and encourage them to easily engage with me.
Availability: I am available for tutoring from August 2023 in-person face-to-face or via Teams. Please see my week-by-week availability and continue to send enquires for tutoring. Thank you.

Experience: I am currently an associate lecturer in chemistry and biochemistry at Edge Hill University`s Ormskirk campus, near Liverpool. I am a fully qualified teacher (graduated as `outstanding` in 2018 with a PGCE from Leicester University and gaining QTS via the Tommy Flowers SCITT) having, after a very rigorous application and selection process, been awarded the Royal Society of Chemistry Teacher Training Scholarship. I recently taught in a State Grammar School for boys, KS3, KS4 and KS5. I completed my PhD research in organic chemistry, planetary science, photophysics and analytical chemistry in December of 2019. I have a first class honours degree in molecular science (i.e., chemistry). I am a STEM ambassador and have delivered talks in multiple primary and secondary schools. I was a senior science technician in two secondary schools where I delivered demonstrations and taught chemistry to KS3, KS4 and A level students, and helped develop teachers knowledge and practical skills. I took part in the schools online `I`m a Scientist Get Me Out of Here` competition, which I won.
