I am an English tutor and post-graduate with a First Class Honours degree in English as well as two Master Degrees and six years of experience tutoring in Brighton & Hove. I`ve also spent time tutoring undergraduates, and continue teaching as part of my PhD in Creative Writing at Goldsmiths, University of London.

I can help in preparing for controlled assessments and exams, improving essay writing skills (including understanding what the teacher/examiner is looking for in a model answer/essay) and also enhancing reading, listening and speaking skills.

In our one-to-one session, I give my student the attention and direction so often lacking in the classroom. After an initial in-depth conversation, in which I talk with the student (and parent) and assess strengths and weaknesses, I tailor lessons according to their particular needs and levels of understanding. Then, after running through the syllabus together, we determine areas of difficulty and, using past papers and set texts, work through appropriate topics.

I believe strongly in engaging the student`s interest in a way that develops confidence in, and deeper understanding of, their subject. I am passionate about English and want my students to achieve their full potential.

I have had a full DBS check which I can provide, if necessary. Also, references.

Please note: I do NOT teach English as a foreign language.

Availability: I am available week days from lunchtime onwards.
Week days are preferable to weekends as I sometimes go away, but I am available on some weekends.

Experience: I have six years of experience in teaching one-to-one KS3, GCSE and A-Level English in Brighton & Hove.
