Information about Dan
Both my parents are Italian and I was taught the language at a young age. Due to Italian being a Latin language it shares many similarities with French and Spanish - thanks to this I choose to pursue these other two languages at college. I know what it`s like to learn not just one new language, but two. I understand the struggles with pronunciation or syntax, the embarrassment of not remembering the right word, or having difficulty understanding someone. Because I`ve faced all these problems myself, I know how to tackle them effectively. This is one of my major strengths when it comes to teaching.
In terms of personal character, I`m extremely driven and determined to teach my students what they want to learn. I`m always happy teaching because I enjoy doing it.
Availability: Free most of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. Can work day or evening. Location of lessons would have to be reachable by bus from UKC campus.
Willing to travel: 2 miles
Experience: Thus far, I have had 3 Italian students. The first purely wanted basic knowledge for a trip to Italy so we worked through a textbook together. On top of this, I gave them invaluable cultural and culinary tips and insights so they could fully enjoy their experience. My current student would like a more thorough knowledge of the language so I`ve adapted my teaching material to be more expansive. We`re tackling verbs, pronunciation, culture, day to day phrase etc. I feel I can aptly cater my teaching methods to match the student`s needs.

When initially contacting Dan regarding Italian lessons, he was really informative and explained his style of teaching and made it easy to arrange a first lesson. From our first lesson, Dan has been really helpful with both his approach to teaching, the content/structure and his help outside of lessons. Dan explained that he can teach to the level you want to achieve, and by a deadline if necessary (for example if you want to be able to converse during a holiday or become fluent conversationally). He also indicated that the lessons will be dictated by my learning, where we can focus on strengths and weaknesses or cover the content I am interested in learning. In terms of the lesson, there is a good mix of content and pronunciation - Dan is very supportive in helping to break down the word into syllables and building up to the full word. He also encourages you to pronounce the word before he does, which I have found really useful as it enables you to build the skills to tackle new words. Overall, I cannot recommend Dan enough.
