Information about Emilio

I was born and raised in London and have been teaching English for most of my professional life and in that time I have been profoundly privileged to see many of my students develop a genuine love of literature and language as a direct result of my teaching. Having already established a firm expertise in English language and literature through my degree and a passion for reading and creative writing, I began my teacher training in London for the next 2 years and have since taught in many different schools (here and abroad) as well as part time home tutoring.

Alongside my teaching, I have always been heavily involved in music and the theatre. I am a classically trained pianist and have professional performance experience (I have been playing concerts since I was a teenager and spent six months performing in a jazz bar in Mexico). I also have considerable acting and directing experience and have taken Shakespeare plays to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, as well as co-directed and project managed a large-scale immersive theatre production in London’s West End in 2015. I am also very keen on sports, a competitive chess player and bi-lingual in Spanish.

Availability: I am available most weekends and weekday afternoons and evenings (3pm-9pm).

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I started my training at an under-achieving academy in south London, which I was able to help transform into an `outstanding’ school. This experience not only provided a supportive and solid grounding to develop my teaching practice and subject knowledge (KS3, KS4, KS5), but also allowed me to enhance my leadership and collaborative skills. I would like this opportunity to work at your school to enrich my teaching experience, strengthen my pedagogical knowledge, and use my ability to communicate complex literary ideas effectively and inspire young people.

My company’s ethos and holistic vision of education was the perfect course for me to fully achieve my potential as an educator. I have become a teacher who cares passionately about promoting self-confidence and independent identity in my students, a teacher who values the importance of mutual respect for others, and a teacher that always encourages open, intellectual inquiry. I am fully committed to my ongoing professional development and always seek to broaden my subject knowledge, as well as embrace innovation in Teaching and Learning to heighten pupil engagement through my practice. My masters in Educational Leadership has also given me the confidence and the ingenuity to bring my pedagogical knowledge and teaching strategies to the classroom and the departments I have worked in.

I always strive to create a supportive and nurturing class environment that benefits the pastoral well-being of my pupils, as well as generate a positive attitude to learning that gives students the confidence to inquire and think more deeply about English. By encouraging continuous personal development in each of my students and assisting them in setting regular achievable targets for themselves it is possible to build a cohesive and collaborative student-teacher relationship which ensures positive and rewarding results.
