Information about Priyanka

Who I Am
I am a highly experienced science teacher who absolutely loves working with children, who`s patient and approachable. At my core, I am passionate about embedding a deep love of learning that persists not only beyond our sessions, but also to other subjects and beyond school.

Work Experience
- Fully qualified science teacher for 5 years specialising in biology, physics and chemistry at KS3 and KS4 level.
- Deputy Head of Science for 2 years, during which time I gained invaluable experience and knowledge upon how to help students make progress

Educational History
- BSc degree from the University of Bristol
- Science PGCE from the University of Bristol
- Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Bristol

My Ethos
- Relationships: A trusting and respectful student-teacher relationship is crucial in developing academic progress. Students do not learn from people they do not like!
- Subject Knowledge: I aim to embed a rich, deep and enduring knowledge of science that can be fluidly applied to different situations. I believe that students should be able to make the connections between what they learn and their everyday experiences of the world, thus making science that much more interesting, applicable and engaging.
- Teaching Style: My teaching style is informed by the latest research around the psychology of learning. In other words, I only use techniques and methods that help learning stick, best embodied by the quote: "Students remember what they think about". As such, students experience a healthy level of challenge in my lessons - an essential ingredient for progress.

Parental Engagement
I like to keep parents involved with the progress made in sessions so that they feel comfortable and confident in the work I do with their child. This has the added benefit of ensuring the student is receiving a consistent message from parents and tutor alike.

Availability: I work as a full-time teacher, so I schedule my tutoring hours for weekday evenings and weekends.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I have 5 years experience with teaching biology, chemistry and physics at KS3 and KS4 level, including combined and triple science at GCSE with the exam board AQA. For the past two years, I have worked as Deputy Head of Science which has required me to work on raising attainment and progress in my department. As such, I know how to help students maximise their potential in science.

Regarding private tutoring, I have tutored in Oxford for the past 3 years; this has included working with KS3 and KS4 students from both the private and state sectors. As such, I am highly familiar with requirements of the GCSE exam boards and national curriculum, as well as those for Common Entrance exams. Furthermore, this has allowed me the opportunity to work with and raise progress for a wide range of pupils from different backgrounds.

Last year alone, I worked with 8 students.
- Those sitting Common Entrance: all students obtained the science grades required to go to their chosen secondary school.
- Those in KS3: marked progress was seen between the science grades of exams sat earlier in the year and end of year exams.
- Those in KS4: all students achieved one or two grades above their predicted science grades in their GCSEs
