Hi there,
I`m a fully qualified secondary English teacher, currently working in a Wiltshire school and tutoring in Chippenham, Corsham and surrounding area. I am a key teacher of GCSE groups, in both language and literature courses and also have lots of experience of A Level Literature. I have previously worked as an examiner for the largest exam board in the country, which means I am able to pinpoint precisely what your child needs to get the necessary grades.
I live in Chippenham, with my wife and children and have been teaching for over 10 years. Having served as second in English, I am currently a Head of Year.
Employing a working teacher, with sound and current knowledge of exam requirements and ongoing educational changes is a must for success!
Availability: Evenings, subject to availability.
Happy to offer paired tuition at £55 for 2 students, £75 for three.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have been part of designing individual intervention and tuition within schools and my KS4 and KS5 groups do extremely well. My GCSE and A level groups have outstripped national average performance for the last 3 years. I work primarily with the AQA exam board but can and have taught OCR and WJEC.

Darren is a great tutor. He plans good sessions and always leaves work for my daughter to complete. My daughter has learnt so many exam techniques in just a few sessions and after having a double English lesson at school at school, which she normally dreads, she said I really enjoyed it now my tutor has taught me how to respond to questions. That speaks volumes.

Darren provided support and tutoring for my son who had failed his GCSE in English Language. Being a boy “who knows everything” he needed a firm hand and specific direction to draw out what he knew and learn how he should approach answering questions. My son knew the basics, Darren was able to draw those out and show how they could be improved. I have no hesitation in recommending Darren. He is personable, focused and engages brilliantly with students. My son’s view was that he wished he could have had Darren as his English teacher at school during his GCSE years.

My daughter unfortunately didn’t pass her English GCSE based on teacher assessments in the summer, so with 5 weeks until the resits in November we contacted Darren for help. Within the 5 weeks he helped our daughter, he not only gave her the confidence to resist the exam which she was apprehensive about, he also equipped her with the valuable skills and methods required in each paper. Before we enlisted his help she didn’t enjoy English but she actually said how much she enjoyed his lessons and how his method of teaching really suited her and how she gained a much greater level of understanding in such a short space of time. Darren has a lovely personality and a great connection with young people, and his input has been invaluable to us. Fingers crossed for results day in January 2021.
