I am a qualified teacher with over 5 years experience in primary school education. My expertise are in teaching early reading and early maths skills to provide a secure foundation to build upon as pupils progress through the curriculum. I have experience working with anxious learners who may view learning as a negative experience. I use a strength based approach with pupils to help build confidence before moving on to bigger challenges.

Experience: PGDE Primary 5-11 with over 5 years experience as a classroom teacher in primary school education. I am keen to inspire a love of learning and believe that this can be achieved by focusing on fluency and securing key strategies. When teaching early maths, this involves the use of concrete manipulatives, so that pupils can `see and feel` what is happening behind the numbers. When teaching early reading, I use a range of games and activities for pupils practise the skill of decoding, as well as promoting a wide range of texts and writing features. I have extensive experience of teaching phonics and supporting pupils through the Year 1 Phonics Check.
