Matthew

Hi there,

My name is Matthew, and I have been a primary school teacher for the last four years. I have taught years 3, 4 and 5, and have also delivered multiple sessions to year 6 children (especially in the build up to SATS). I am enthusiastic in my delivery of sessions, and enjoy being able to work with others to aid their learning. I expect hard work during our sessions, but I am also very patient and understanding that some areas may take longer than others. My sessions involve lots of discussion, as I feel that being able to discuss and explain answers is key to showing understanding. Where possible, I also look to tailor sessions to the interests of the student to aid engagement and enjoyment, as these are two areas that will also aid learning. As an example, during previous reading tutoring sessions I have delivered, I have created reading texts based on something that the student is interested in, whether that be animals, sport, or anything really!

This academic year, I have delivered English tutoring online to two year 5 boys, with a focus on writing and reading. I have also delivered Maths tutoring to a year 7 girl, with a focus on recapping the year 6 curriculum. These sessions have involved a range of activities, such as answering questions, planning and writing longer pieces of text, grammar games, and many other things. I am fully up to date with current teaching methods used in primary schools and incorporate appropriate strategies to suit the needs of the child I am tutoring. In addition, I am very happy to set home learning or not, just let me know!!

During our initial session, I will look to spend some time to get to know the child that I am working with, and then look to tailor all future sessions to suit the child`s needs. At the end of each session, I am happy to take a bit of extra time to discuss with parents / careers how the session has gone and anything I have noticed / any recommendations I have to benefit the child`s learning. I am available weekday evenings and weekend mornings and afternoons. I look forward to hearing from you and starting our learning journey!!
