Information about Olivia
I`m a Cambridge geography graduate who specialises in teaching university-level social sciences, of course focussing on geography, but with an interest across the humanities! I graduated with a 1st in Geography from Cambridge (2015) and have recently finished an MA in Environment, Development and Policy at the University of Sussex, expecting to graduate with a Distinction. Whilst at Sussex I studied in an inter-disciplinary `Global Studies` school which had a diverse community of postgraduates. So whilst I am most at home teaching geography, I am comfortable engaging with topics ranging from international relations to anthropology.
As a tutor I take a relaxed and friendly but also detailed approach, and am very keen to work with individuals to meet their specific needs - I am very keen to be clear about the goals and outcomes of particular tutoring sessions and blocks of lessons. I have great personal experience of interpreting mark schemes as well as improving exam technique, but I am equally enthusiastic about my subject purely for the sake of interest and really do believe that essay writing is a very useful learning exercise to build research and analysis skills.
Within my field I specialise in topics at the intersection between environment and development, in particular relating to adaptation to climate change, resilience and the political economy of the environment / political ecology. I plan to do a PhD and have research experience from working within major research institutions as well as writing papers for publication, so am particularly interested in working with University level students.
If you`re struggling with university level social sciences and humanities, in particular how to perfect your essay writing, then I would love to hear from you and see how I could help.

Experience: Tutoring Experience:
I spent the summer of 2015 working at home hosting French students aged **Telephone Number Removed** glish language learning holidays, assisting with teaching them English and organising excursions around the local area.
I volunteered whilst in Cambridge to host students from under privileged educational backgrounds to visit the university on a 3 day scheme, taking them to lectures and supervisions with me (for which I underwent a DBS check, Jan 2015, which has since been updated in March 2016).
I have tutored university level students througho**Telephone Number Removed** working on managing independent study, building research skills, essay technique and a stronger writing `voice` as well as covering key literature and thematic knowledge across a range of topics. I also worked with a student who was struggling with their dissertation, giving advice and helping them to find their own way to bring their research together in a coherent way.
Tutoring Approach:
I am a really friendly and down to earth person who`s always very keen to relate to other people and work together and collaborate to get the best results possible!
