I have a relaxed, fluid approach to teaching and learning, building confidence and a sense of progression within students by tailoring lessons to individual needs.

Experience: Over 20 years as an English teacher, including 12 as Head of English in a successful secondary school.

As a classroom teacher, judged Outstanding by Ofsted, I have a long record of success with a range of abilities, particularly in exam performance. My GCSE Language and Literature mixed ability classes consistently achieve 90 to 100% A*-C, while my A level English Literature students regularly attain results well in excess of their ALPs targets. I have a confident understanding of a range of exam boards and several years experience as a moderator with AQA.

Alongside responding to requests from parents to tutor students, as Head of English I have enjoyed developing and teaching a formal initiative of One-to-One tutoring. I’ve also tutored a Gifted and Talented group outside school hours, many of who have been inspired to continue their study of English at A level.
