Information about Amy

I am very passionate about supporting young people in engaging with and accessing learning. I believe that all young people have the ability to be successful in maths and just need the appropriate support to develop their confidence and understanding of concepts. I am a very calm person and aim to provide explanations that are clear, methodical and easy to understand. From my teaching experience, I have developed a number of strategies to help support learners and am always able to find new approaches to explanations to meet individual student needs.

Having most recently been an Assistant Principal (Director of Maths, English and Science) at a KS4 and KS5 college I have a solid understanding of curriculum and examining bodies. I also have previous experience as Head of Maths in a previous school. I am currently studying to be a qualified counsellor but am keen to continue teaching through tutoring.

Experience: I am a fully qualified maths teacher with experience teaching all ages from 11-18 having taught maths for over 6 years. I have taught in various academic settings with experience as a teacher in mainstream and SEN schools, as well as one-to-one or small group tutoring. My experience includes working in a large mainstream school primarily focusing on preparing students for their GCSE maths exams to achieve higher grades. I have also worked with students with a high level of special educational needs and am able to implement a range of teaching strategies for students who struggle to access maths. I am familiar with the new GCSE maths specification and various exam boards. I am also able to teach science up to GCSE level.

I completed my Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering (MEng) at Imperial College London in 2013 and went on to teach through the TeachFirst scheme gaining a PGCE in 2014 and a Masters in Education in 2017.
