I qualified from the University of Cumbria with a PGCE in Secondary English with QTS. I have worked full time in a mixed comprehensive secondary school for two years and I would like to extend my teaching to others one to one outside of school time to help young students with their literacy, English language and literature in KS2/KS3/KS4.
I volunteer as much time as I can outside of school to help young people develop and grow. Most recently I have held a creative writing club; volunteered as a leader on a year 9 and year 10 Duke of Edinburgh bronze level expedition course and chaperoned young performers in an amateur dramatics production of Oliver.

Most recently I have worked in a school that uses online teaching and so I have gained significant confidence in using this to boost my students` progress.
I have tutored two Year 11 students this academic year. Due to COVID-19, this has unfortunately come to a premature end but I hope to continue my work with other students via an online platform.

Experience: I am presently in my fourth year of my teaching career and I have found my experience to be extremely rewarding, of which I have developed my practice amongst highly professional staff, pupils of various abilities and the wider community including parents/carers.

I am currently a supply English teacher and most recently I have been working at a school which utilises online learning strategies and online teaching.

I also have had the role as Form Tutor in which weekly student and tutor led worship were paramount to the school’s Christian values. Last year I helped my tutees complete the Archbishop of York award and lead worship in form time. Outside of my teaching hours, I hosted a weekly creative writing club after school in which roughly twenty students have created poems, short stories and films. I have led an assembly relating to promoting a national writing competition. I love seeing students enjoying writing and celebrating their achievements no matter how great or small. Another example of this was when I accompanied my Year 7 form to Lockerbie. Seeing the young people in my care flourishing as they completed group tasks such as orienteering, reaffirmed my desire to work with young people. Furthermore, I supported our school Duke of Edinburgh coordinator to assist on expeditions outside of school hours. Most recently I completed the lowland leader qualification and have supervised and assisted students to achieve their Bronze award. Again, this is an experience that has not only developed students so they are able to believe in their own abilities, but I have also enabled them to achieve.

Outside of school I am part of the local amateur dramatics society and I have been a qualified safeguarding chaperone there since 2015.

I have the energy, resilience and enthusiasm to support everyone and I relish the opportunities in bringing out young people`s best abilities to help mould them into independent learners. I would like to take on more responsibility when this is appropriate.
