Information about Masa

Hello!
My name is Masa and I am currently a 3rd year PhD student in Clinical Biochemistry and Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge, as a Gates Cambridge Scholar. Previously, I have earned my medical degree in 2017, graduating first in my class (valedictorian) and have been ranked as the best performing student throughout all six years of my studies.

Excitement about a subject can be contagious. I am very passionate and enthusiastic about all things science and believe that I can transfer that energy to others. I think this is crucial for engaging people and facilitating fruitful discussions on a topic. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching during my undergraduate years and have received excellent feedback, with some of my students continuing on a teaching assistant role themselves.

I have always had an aptitude for learning, but I think one of the most crucial points in my life was when I was being tutored by my biology teacher, as part of the preparations for competing in the national biology competition. Her love for her subject, and maybe more importantly - teaching, inspired me to work more, ask questions, dig deep for answers. This has resulted in winning 3 awards in the subsequent years (2x 1st place and 1x 3rd place), and the energy and passion she gifted me with haven`t left me ever since. This has been the biggest driver and reason why I teach - hoping to inspire and empower other children and students.

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: I have vast experience in teaching, having thought undergraduate medical students (undergraduate teaching assistant for the Microbiology course for four years; Human Genetics course for two years) and postgraduate students (postgraduate teaching assistant for the MPhil in Basic and Translational Neuroscience for one year). I have also thought younger children, working with Girls in STEM society in Cambridge, whose goals are to inspire and empower young children to pursue STEM subjects.
