Information about Sue
Passionate biology teacher, bringing understanding and making learning fun!
I have an innovative style using visual aids, power points, practical experiments, videos, games etc. and aim to make sessions interesting, interactive and informative. Biology is all around us to explore, wonder at and grasp the basic concepts..... as well as the detail.
I am fully qualified with a BSc in Biology (1st Class Hons) as well as a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. Before teaching I worked for various industrial companies as a microbiologist. Therefore I completely understand how biology can be applied to a specific working environment.
I believe that with encouragement and confidence building, students can indeed reach their potential. This is what I strive to achieve by tutoring and love to see happen.
Daytime, evening, midweek, occasional weekends and Bank Holidays
1-2 hour lessons, dependent on distance to travel
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: 15 years of teaching experience, covering all exam boards. However, I always tutor to the most current specification.
Experienced in teaching Biology/Human biology A level, biological modules of BTEC Science, Biology and/or Science GCSE/IGCSE and biological components of Health and Social Care, Access to Higher Education and Open University courses.
In the 2018 exams my A level students achieved 2 grades higher than predicted, with one fulfilling his dream of being selected for medical school. My GCSE student gained a 9, my adult Access student gained a distinction.
2019 exams resulted in all 10 of my A level students achieved grades sufficient to attend their first choice University.
In 2020 my students achieved grades higher than their teacher assessments (in the October exams) thus improving their future prospects.
Whilst keeping an eye the current situation, I am now able to offer one to one as well as online tutoring, both of which I have extensive experience. Between session support can be achieved via email, to share resources. Also willing to check through completed exam papers and offer informed exam technique advice.

Feedback For Sue (4)
My grandaughter has been very grateful for the help she is getting from Sue for her A level biology. It was very easy to communicate with Sue via the web site before we employed her. She was very flexible and helpful arranging suitable times for the lessons. She arrives fully prepared, teaches, and consolidates with exam questions the following week. My granddaughter finds this all very helpful, and is recovering her confidence in the subject.
Tutors Response :
Thank you for your kind feedback. It`s always a joy for me to see a student reconnect with the subject I am so passionate about. To have a part in that is the very reason I tutor!
My daughter had weekly sessions with Sue to help with her application of the knowledge she was learning in Biology lessons at college. She valued going through exam questions and the interactive way that Sue helped her to learn, remember and apply information. Sue was friendly, approachable and I would thoroughly recommend her.
Sue is an excellent tutor. She is punctual, prepared and knowledgeable. My daughter finds her methods and explanations on topics easy to comprehend. She is making good progress in just a few weeks of commencing lessons with Sue. Highly recommended.
Brilliant tutor, knows her subject and has good knowledge of exam techniques of many of the different examination boards. Has worked well with my daughter coaching her on example questions at A level and giving her much needed confidence on the run up to her exams. Would definitely recommend.
