Information about Gail

A fully qualified science teacher (QTS/PGCE) and PhD, with experience of teaching science at secondary level. I specialise in teaching Biology, Chemistry and Physics at GCSE and Chemistry at A Level.

My key goal is to provide science tutoring that identifies areas of weakness quickly and unlocks barriers to succeeding in science learning.

Understanding difficult concepts is key to doing well in science. The ability to apply scientific ideas and knowledge in unfamiliar circumstances is critical to doing well in exams.

My exam based tutoring approach helps students to build knowledge and improve critical thinking, improving understanding and enabling them to learn how to think through scientific questions. Students develop the confidence and agility they need to explore and resolve unfamiliar problems at GCSE and A Level.

I tailor my approach to the needs of each individual student and can focus on specific difficult topics, help study effectively for exams, or help students learn and understand science subjects more successfully over time.

In your first session we will discuss your needs and learning so far, identify learning barriers together, and agree what type and style of help is needed.

If we decide to go ahead, we will review your learning plan frequently and adjust it together as progress is made. This makes sure that tutor time is always well spent, always develops learning at school or university, and builds towards the improvements you want to achieve.

I will design tutoring around your year of study and exam board. and will provide teaching, challenge activities. and exam based resources as they are needed. You are likely to find a laptop or tablet, an internet connection, and a relevant textbook useful for tutor sessions.

Availability: I am a full-time, professional, science tutor and am available for online sessions only on weekdays, evenings and weekends.

Willing to travel: 50 miles

Experience: I achieved my doctorate from the University of London and my PGCE in Science (Chemistry) from the University of Gloucestershire. I specialise in tutoring Biology, Chemistry and Physics at GCSE and A Level Chemistry across AQA, OCR, Edexcel, and WJEC specifications.

I have returned to teaching and private tutoring later in life, following an academic career and success in management and senior leadership roles in London and Bristol. A lead member of The Science Tutor Group, I bring to tutoring a strong understanding of what universities and employers look for in their students and employees - the knowledge, behaviours and tools young people really need to succeed.
