Information about Bethany
Hi! I`m Bethany, a qualified History teacher who has also tutored numerous students in KS1-4 English and Maths successfully. I`m a warm, focused and reliable educator who gets on with kids and their caregivers.
I always help students grow in their passion, confidence, skills and knowledge of a topic and I adapt the structure and content of my lessons to what the pupil and their parent/carer needs. I`ve had students before who needed me to help them with their homework and exam practice, so we went by the book. Without giving them the answers, I guided them in working out what questions, mark schemes and teachers needed of them and I helped them to put their thoughts on paper. Some of my students and their parents/carers needed less assistance with schoolwork but were interested in refining their skills and knowledge around the topic. Through scaffolding techniques, I`ve stretched their understanding of ideas by introducing them to more complex work in a subject and helped them to answer questions that they wouldn`t be expected to even approach in a classroom for another year!
Kids and their caregivers get a lot out of working with me for they always have a positive experience and strengthen their knowledge of a topic.
I am happy to buy educational materials at an additional cost that we can negotiate and I am also happy to report on your child`s lessons and development either in writing or verbally.
Availability: I am available during the Summer holiday and on weekends in North London and the City.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: As I said, I am a qualified teacher. In addition to supply teaching in schools from January to April 2022 in London, I have also enjoyed fixed-term contracts elsewhere. From September 2019 to August 2020, I taught History from KS3 to KS5 at a successful grammar school, and then from January to August 2021 at a beloved inner-city school.
My students saw excellent progress in their grades and many of my A-Level pupils have been accepted into universities including Oxford and Cambridge. I coordinated both with students and their parents to form strategies that helped the child progress in their grades and skills and develop more of a passion for History. These strategies included giving the student additional 1:1 support in class and implementing activities that that child enjoyed. I created positive rapport with students and their parents, thanks to my easygoing and optimistic nature. I was praised for my strong teaching skills, including my creative and challenging tasks, my ability to individualise learning to my students` needs and my talent at engaging hard-to-reach kids.
Formerly, I was a teaching assistant. I worked with kids who had special needs in subjects that varied from music to literacy to art to numeracy. I aided in providing sensory input and I was patient and caring in the way that I treated them. I helped colleagues in keeping parents knowledgeable of how their child was progressing. I gained experience supporting groups of children and on 2:1 and 1:1 bases.
I have spent many hours prior to now in engaging children intellectually and entertainingly. In 2013, I racked up 50 hours as a classroom assistant. I supported the teacher in educating the students on the curriculum and I helped in creating capturing activities. For one such activity for History, I drew and photocopied an image of a Roman soldier, instead of taking a picture from the internet, so that the children could colour it in on a Friday afternoon. In 2015, I spent 10 weeks as a camp counsellor. While I made sure that our campers were safe, I worked with colleagues to invent entertainment for the children. Their ages ranged from 5 to 17. Many had disabilities that we took care of in ways that prioritised the child`s needs, such as by maintaining confidentiality and adapting activities.
Furthermore, I have excellent and applicable qualifications. I am DBS-checked and have training in various aspects of safeguarding and manual handling, which will help me to support your child safely. Additionally, I am happy to utilise my education for tutoring. I have a degree in History and I have A-Levels in that subject as well as English Literature and Psychology. Plus, I have GCSEs (all A*-C) in English, Maths, Science, Psychology, Art, et cetera. I am also First Aid trained.
Altogether, I have practical experience working with a wide range of children, especially in learning environments. I have the qualifications to reinforce my ability as an excellent choice of tutor for your child.
If you would like, I can provide references.
Thank you for reading!
