Information about Michelle

I am a committed educational leader, consultant, researcher and lecturer ensuring transformational teaching, scholarship and curriculums. I am currently the Head of Science and Academic Partnerships at LIC University of Leeds. I have a PhD in Bio-Chemistry and a post graduate qualification in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education from the University of Sheffield.

I have in -depth knowledge of all mainstream science curriculums and entrance exams (primary school - university level).

I specialise in tutoring students with barriers to learning: International students, dyslexic students and students who struggle with motivation and organisation. I currently teach science in specialist Autistic schools for the National Autistic Society.

Availability: I am flexible to meet your requirements, weekdays, evenings and weekends – please contact me.

Willing to travel: 8 miles

Experience: I have been teaching and leading science curriculum at university level for 13 years and have worked with a variety of pupils with various abilities, learning styles, strengths and weaknesses.

I have in -depth knowledge of all mainstream science curriculums and entrance exams (primary school - university level).

I am passionate about breaking down barriers to learning and improving student outcomes for all. I am a committee member of the Special Educational Needs, Disability and Mental Health Working Group. I am committed to research led education. I am currently part of a research collaboration with the University of Leeds investigating international students outcomes and motivations globally.

My current and recent tutees include A- level students attending both private and state schools, international students and students with anxiety and special educational needs.

My method of teaching greatly helps a student understand their subject and gives them the confidence needed to excel and succeed in their studies. The tuition sessions will be catered to the needs of the pupil, focusing on any weakness. I ensure that tuition sessions are as individual, fun and interesting.

I have taught many individuals intensively for their entrance exams, GCSE and A-levels in the run up to exams.

I have a proven track record of ensuring students excel to their full potential.

I have a current and up to date (DBS/ CRB).

My approach is to work alongside learners with the aim of facilitating them to discover and develop their own most suitable strategies and techniques for achieving their goals. These goals can be very diverse: to feel more confident, to boost grades, to improve general skills, to pass specific exams, to gain entry to Universities, to write better reports, or to master specific subjects or areas.

I am very down-to-earth, friendly, open, and approachable. I always take into account the learner`s age, experience, starting-level and needs, I am very hard-working and adaptable in finding new and appropriate ways to get the required results for each individual.
Tailoring the sessions to each student is necessary to create an environment where students can enjoy the subject they may once have been struggling with. Developing confidence and enthusiasm in a subject makes a profound difference in academic performance.

I make structured lesson plans tailored to student’s needs and will set regular tasks to ensure full understanding of topics under discussion.

I have an excellent knowledge and experience of the current curriculum and I have a wealth of relevant educational and exam materials.

I can provide guidance in writing applications for undergraduate entry as well as assist in interview techniques.

I also offer advice and assistance with writing university reports / dissertations, proof-reading and advice/ mentoring.

Michelle is an excellent teacher. She is warm and welcoming, but very knowledgeable. Her teaching style builds confidence and she paces lessons with enough informal chat to break up the intense teaching to enable the work to sink in. My daughter’s confidence with her Chemistry has greatly improved.
