Information about Sharon
I`m a highly qualified, experienced and friendly but professional full-time tutor of French, Spanish and English Language at all levels, as well as an ESOL/English as a Foreign language tutor. I`m a GCSE and A level examiner, ESOL Coordinator for an organisation supporting refugees and I also teach English for Academic Purposes to A level and Higher Education students of any subject who are wanting to improve their essay and dissertation writing skills.
I love languages and linguistics and lived for many years in France and Spain. Alongside tutoring I too enjoy studying Italian and, in my spare time, I like to garden, listen to music and watch films - both in different languages and genres.
I offer a 50% reduction on the introductory first hour`s tuition and the prices quoted are based on tutoring online and from my home on a one-to-one basis - additional charges apply for tutoring more than one person. Additional charges also apply for certain qualifications and for Business French and Spanish.
Availability: Weekdays all times
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I teach French and Spanish for conversation, business, leisure and for qualifications including GCSEs, A levels and Foreign Language Diplomas (e.g. the Diplôme d`etudes en langue française and the Diploma de español). I teach English for ESOL qualifications and and English for Academic Purposes. For native English speakers, I teach GCSE English Language and Literature. I always tailor lessons to the syllabus of the specific exam board, as well as to the specific learning needs of the learner.
I tailor lessons to the individual needs of learners using a wide range of multi-modal resources and authentic materials, with an emphasis on functional language skills and effective communication. After lessons students are very welcome to take away any PowerPoints in order to reinforce their learning using a PC, tablet or `phone. These presentations are at the heart of most lessons and they are ordinarily embedded with audio-files, media articles and links to YouTube videos and other webpages. Depending on the needs and preferences of the student, I contextualise the language within the country/ies of interest.
I lived and worked in France and Spain for several years and I`ve been teaching French, Spanish and English to young people and adults since 2007 usually as a private tutor but I also worked for 2 years in an independent school teaching French to Spanish pupils.
I am ESOL Coordinator for a local organisation supporting resettled refugees, which entails designing English Teaching/Learning programmes, coordinating a team of English tutors and teaching on the programmes.
I have significant experience of working with students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including physical impairment and lifelong developmental disabilities such as autism.

My son is dyslexic but extremely able in Maths and Sciences. He has always struggled with English and in order to get into a good 6th form needs to pass English. I couldnt have found anyone better for him than Sharon. Over the past year he has always come out of each session very positive and chatty. His confidence has grown immensely. He even waxes lyrical about the set texts, something I never expected! Sharon tailors her tuition beautifully to the learner and her reliability and professionalism are always evident. I would not hesitate to recommend Sharon.
Tutors Response :
Working with your son has been an absolute joy and I can`t tell you what it has meant to witness his growth in confidence and in enthusiasm for English. A tutor could not wish for a better student; I really do have the best job in the world! I hope he achieves far beyond the required pass and wish him the very best in all that he does.
