Hello! I am Maia and I am currently in my second-year of studying medicine at Cardiff University (UK). I have 1 year of experience teaching online classes to secondary students, primarily focusing on GCSE biology and chemistry.

I am very familiar with the syllabuses and my teaching style focuses on memory and revision techniques. I am a firm believer in that grades don’t entirely depend on the amount of time you put in, but rather the quality of revision you undertake. Whatever your learning style, I will incorporate that into my lessons but I will also introduce other techniques such as active recall and spaced repetition to challenge you. However, it is not all about grades and I have experience teaching a range of abilities, supporting lots of different learning styles.

I want my lesson space to be collaborative and so much of our learning will be driven by you! As opposed to lessons at school with 20+ pupils where it is sometimes hard to grab the teachers attention, my lessons will be fully focused on you and your needs. We will set weekly and monthly goals to ensure your learning stays on track.

But equally, I don’t want you to feel pressured in my lessons. I know how stressful school and exams can be and so I also want to support you within that. Personally I really struggled at GCSE to keep calm and manage my stress levels. However, 4 years on I believe I’ve developed many techniques in which help me to balance my time and not get too overwhelmed. Emphasising these techniques will be just as important in my lessons as revision!

Here’s a general plan of a typical lesson with me :
We will generally start with some learning objectives and a quiz. Then we will do a variety of different activities depending on your needs. For example, going through exam questions together, creating flash cards or coming up with imaginative ways to remember complex concepts. I like to end the lessons by introducing some optional work for you to take away and complete. Its not normally difficult tasks, just some things to consolidate your understanding if you feel like it’s necessary !
