Information about Joseph
Hi! My name is Joe and I am a recent graduate of the University of Oxford in Biological Sciences, where I was an Exhibitioner at New College, achieving a high 2:1 overall. I am currently studying for a MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College, the hours of which leave my schedule rather flexible for potential tutees.
My experience at Oxford means that I am comfortable assisting in Oxbridge and other university applications, especially to the sciences: reading personal statements, conducting mock interviews and discussing relevant reading. On top of this, I am keen to assist pupils in a much wider range of academic subjects at 11+ and GCSE level. I believe that my academic performance in school (8A* 1A at GCSE, A*A*A at A level) allows me to cover a broad range of topics with ease.
In my sessions, I will primarily focus on the use of worked examples and past paper questions to identify gaps in knowledge. I will then focus on in-depth discussion of the underlying principles and context behind these gaps to ensure concepts are understood rather than learned by rote. Here, I believe that my experience in the Oxford tutorial system can provide inspiration - guiding students to the right answer rather than immediately correcting mistakes.
I would love to hear from anyone with any requests that they think I might be able to help with, and I will do everything I can to enable success in my tutees. Thank you!
Availability: I am available every weekday evening aside from Thursdays, with some flexibility towards working weekends.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have experience tutoring KS3 and KS4 students for maths and science, as well as in other areas such as University Admissions.
