Information about Chris

Hi I`m Chris, a secondary school English teacher based in Liverpool. I have worked in a number of schools and taught both boys and girls of varied abilities.

I offer one-to-one tuition and can help with:
-literacy
-coursework
-exam preparation
-essay writing technique
-revision

I have recently started to offer an email only service for GCSE students, who live further than is feasible to travel, whereby I send exam based questions/papers and provide detailed feedback.

At GCSE I specialise in teaching the AQA specification and the following texts: Of Mice and Men, An Inspector Calls, "Relationships" and "Power and Conflict" poetry (from the anthology), Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth and A Christmas Carol.

I have also marked GCSE English Language exams for AQA for 8 years. Recently, I marked the new GCSE English Language (paper 2) exam, so can offer expert advice on this area of the course

At A Level I specialise in teaching AQA English Literature (specification A) and the texts: The Great Gatsby, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Handmaid`s Tale, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, poetry (pre-1900 anthology), Feminine Gospels, Shakespeare (Othello and Much Ado About Nothing).

Please note: I do not teach English Language at A Level.

I aim to build a positive, supportive rapport with each student and adapt to meet his or her needs.

I can travel to your home or meet at a public venue such as a library or café. Travel beyond 10 miles is subject to an extra charge for petrol/time. Please ask for more details.

My rate of £30 per hour includes expenses for resources. I will mark any work I set after each session free of charge.

Availability: Thursday evening

Other times are at my discretion (rescheduling due to other commitments or holiday sessions).

Chris has been a fantastic tutor. While being tutored by Chris I had learnt on how to improve my language techniques, creating detailed answers, correctly structuring each question on both exam papers and shown clear examples of how each question should look. Chris provides various useful resources to use to achieve help passing the exam. This includes resources provided to research while revising and work being set after each lesson which would be marked before the next lesson. I would highly recommend Chris to any parent looking for a tutor as he is a very engaging and knowledgeable tutor who delivers a very high standard of teaching.

We have found Chris to be an excellent teacher. He created a great rapport with our son. He was very professional and enthusiastic and provided a wealth of resources. He encouraged his strengths in the subject whilst supporting and improving his weaknesses. He marked any work set before the next lesson and provided positive constructive criticism when needed. We wouldn`t hesitate to recommend Chris. LH
