Information about Ruby
I am an experienced, committed, engaging and sensitive tutor, who is passionate about tutoring; I love having the opportunity to make a real impact, and seeing my students grow in confidence and ability. All my sessions are considered and personalised, taking into account each student`s individual needs, targets, preferences, and areas for improvement.
WHAT I CAN HELP WITH...
My services are aimed at children who would benefit from additional support in any of the following areas: spelling, reading, reading comprehension, punctuation, grammar, sentence construction, text structure, writing for different purposes and audiences, handwriting, preparation for the English components of SATS and 11+ exams, preparation for KS3 English exams, and preparation for GCSE.
LOCATION...
I would need to travel to you or a third location, rather than you coming to me - anywhere in Burgess Hill, Lewes, Brighton, Haywards Heath and surrounding areas is fine. Virtual lessons are also an option.
PRICES...
I charge £20-30, depending on lesson length and traveling distance, with a complimentary first lesson. Group sessions are a possibility.
CONTACTING ME...
If you have any questions or are interested in my services, please do not hesitate to message or email me.
Availability: I`m afraid I do not have any term-time availability for September, but I am available for summer holiday tutoring, which can be a great way to:
- keep those brains exercised during the long break
- increase preparedness for the next academic year
- address any gaps or areas for improvement from the year (spelling, reading, comprehension, punctuation, grammar, vocabulary, handwriting, etc.)
Given the nature of the summer holidays, you wouldn`t necessarily need to commit to a set day and time every single week.
Willing to travel: 12 miles
Experience: I am an English Literature graduate, newly qualified secondary school English teacher and an experienced English/Literacy tutor.
To go into more detail, I have a first-class BA in Literature from York University and have been a private tutor for 3 years. Before/during this time I also worked at The Weald School for 2 years, delivering literacy intervention lessons to small groups of Year 7s, 8s and 9s (i.e. 11- to 14-year-olds). Many of the students I have worked with have had learning/neurodevelopmental differences, including dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, slow processing speed, and Asperger Syndrome.
I also run extracurricular courses and workshops for children with a passion for words = and have just successfully completed my teacher training at Sussex University.

I have an Enhanced DBS Certificate.
