Information about Sam
Hi I`m Sam, a University of York Student studying History, in terms of teaching method I believe in a heavily personalised method which constructively tests the individual to the edge of their ability, but also allows for flexibility within the lessons to focus on blindspots in the students education. My opinion would be that tutoring should push students to have greater confidence in their own individual ability away from their peers, while also allowing them the safety net of having an experienced tutor to gently guide them through gaps in their academic ability. I would say that my experience of self-teaching sections of my A levels to myself during periods of lockdown has allowed to fully understand how to create a pupil, no matter the learning difficulties or mindset they have, who gains some semblence of how to revise correctly, note take effectively and understand how natural curiosity of ones subject is necessary for fulfilling their academic potential. Uulitmately, my teaching depends on the fact that the most important part of learning is making mistakes and trying to find the reasons for those mistakes. All this does make my teaching style sound rather serious, but it is more that I seriously want my students to achieve and that I try to make my teaching as relaxed and unstressful for the student as possible.
