Information about Dawn
I was born, raised and still live in Kettering, Northants. I have two children (one away at university and one at home) and have worked in several local schools. I am a qualified teacher of secondary English and taught most recently within the private sector. I have several regular tutees from primary age to adult. I am currently working in a SEN school whilst studying for a Masters degree in Counselling.
I absolutely love my subject and I particularly enjoy teaching poetry, creative writing and literacy. I have tutored many private students from the ages of 4-18yrs + and have actively worked as a regular tutor since 2010. I have worked with many of my current clients for several years and have great relationships with them and their families. Im always sad when GCSE time is over and I have to say goodbye to the fabulous young people Ive built a rapport with. I tend to get most of my clients via word of mouth.
I always try to make my sessions varied and I am able to adapt my style to suit the student. I am a really easy going person, and like to inject fun and humour in to what I do. Many of my students have had additional learning needs, such as Dyslexia and/or ASD. I feel I have a lot of experience in working with students who have been failed by the traditional education system; I have lots of resources and ways of engaging learners and I am always up for a challenge. If I suspect there is an undiagnosed condition, I will tentatively talk to you about this if appropriate.
If you would like a regular reliable tutor, please get in touch.
Availability: I have just added some more sessions to my schedule as I have been able to move some other commitments around.
I am only currently able to tutor at my home address in Barton Seagrave straight after school (4pm) up to around 7pm, but I may be able to work a little later, so please just ask. I am very flexible with times/days during school holidays. I am always willing to make special arrangements with students in the lead up to their exams.
I can be flexible with younger students and can offer split sessions of several subjects to suit. I can also offer 30/45 minute sessions if preferred. Please ask me about fees.
**Please note
Due to demand and time involved in planning and preparation. I do charge a missed session fee if less than 24 notice is given, this equates to the same amount as the missed session. I also run to a tight schedule, so if a student arrives later than the agreed time, their session will not be extended and the full fee will still be payable. It is unfortunate that I have had to introduce this, but on several occasions I have people either cancel at the last minute or fail to show up for a pre-arranged session.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I hold Qualified Teacher Status and have worked in education since 2007. My specialism is in English and I hold a joint honours degree in English with Education Studies. I have a wide and varied range of experience and have taught KS3/GCSE, Functional Skills English and helped with intervention programmes in primary and secondary literacy for those who have fallen behind.
I have worked as a tutor since 2010 and have previously tutored students from the age of 4 to 18 plus. In the last 2.5 years I have worked in several primary schools and therefore have some understanding of the KS1/KS2 curriculum. I have taught students of all ability levels, and have extensive experience with students with Special Educational Needs, having spent the majority of my career working in special schools.
