Information about Finlay
Hi! My name is Finlay, I am entering the second year of my Philosophy, Politics, and Economics degree at the University of Oxford. Last year, I did my A-levels in Maths and Economics - I achieved an A* in Maths and a very high A in Economics, the top performer that year. Primarily, I wish to offer online tuition, but I am willing to travel short distances if this is unfeasible. My lesson style would be very much flexible and focused around what students would prefer - if there is a need for a wider explanation of a topic, that would be focused on; alternatively, worked examples and going through questions with a focus on exam technique could be prioritised if that was preferred. For Mathematics, a typical lesson may include an explanation of a topic and some worked examples, before working collectively on a few questions. There may be work set for the next session to consolidate understanding. An Economics lesson would be more focused on the explanation of topics and possible approaches to essay questions, as well as high-level evaluation points with examples and reference to the UK and international economies. As a tutor, I will prepare slides, worked examples, and have a whiteboard function to assist. I am very flexible with questions, suggestions of topics and advice on how to best to use the time we have in sessions.
Availability: I aim to be as flexible as possible. Up until October, I am available every day of the week for tutoring, subject to extraordinary circumstances. After October, my schedule will change - I will update in due course when I know my university commitments.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I took my Maths and Economics A-levels last year so I am well-rehearsed in the course material. I have tutored my brother on a casual basis; he went from a grade 6 prediction in Mathematics to a grade 8 result. I also tutored two year 11 students of slightly weaker ability during my A-level studies, both of whom passed their Maths exams with a grade 5. For Economics, I have tutored a family friend who will take their A-level exam next year - I have received very positive feedback so far.
