Hi there! I’m Pádraig — very nice to meet you!

I recently completed an MPhil in Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics at the University of Oxford, where I focused on theoretical syntax and the historical linguistics of the Germanic and Celtic branches. Before that, I studied Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic at the University of Cambridge, graduating with a first-class degree. I’m originally from Slovenia and Germany, and have been living in the UK for the past few years.

I love working with people who are eager to improve their language skills — whether they’re preparing for exams, applying to Oxbridge, or rebuilding confidence after a tough academic year. I’ve tutored IB and A-Level students in German and Welsh, helped students prepare for university interviews, and even worked as an interview assistant at Cambridge, giving me first-hand insight into what top universities look for.

I’m a native speaker of English, German, and Slovenian, and speak Irish and Welsh proficiently. I also have working knowledge of Modern Hebrew, French, Icelandic, and Levantine Arabic. On the historical side, I’ve studied Latin (6 years), Koine Greek (4 years), and Biblical Hebrew (2 years), and I work regularly with Old English, Old Norse, Middle Welsh, and Old/Middle Irish.

I graduated from an international school in Slovenia with 42/45 in the IB, where I took English A Literature HL, Slovenian A Literature HL, German B HL, Philosophy HL, Maths SL and Chemistry SL.

Experience: I’ve had the pleasure of tutoring a wide range of learners across different subjects, though ancient and modern languages are definitely my strongest area. I offer tutoring in German, English literature, Latin, Koine Greek, and a number of other languages, and I always tailor my approach to suit each student’s learning style — whether they’re visual, analytical, or prefer a more conversational method.

My experience spans primary and secondary school pupils, university students, and adult learners — including mature students preparing for A-levels or school-leaving qualifications. I also support all aspects of the International Baccalaureate (IB) and am happy to offer guidance on specific subjects I studied, or strategies to help you perform your best in final exams.

At university, I’ve taken part in outreach programmes such as Schools Connect, offering GCSE and A-level support to students from disadvantaged backgrounds. I’ve taught English, history, and modern languages in primary schools around Cambridge, and last summer I organised a Latin summer school for A-level students at my former school.

I also ran an online project teaching the basics of Irish and Welsh to primary-aged learners and helped promote awareness of Celtic language revitalisation through social media. More recently, I’ve tutored adult learners looking to reconnect with Irish or Welsh, which has been incredibly rewarding.
