Information about Mani

I am a medical student, due to start in my 4th Year at the University of Leeds Medical School (MBChB, Medicine and Surgery) in September 2019.
My interest is science and maths and I have successfully tutored students through GCSE chemistry, physics, biology and maths. I have also taught for school entrance exams including the 7+, 11+ and 13+ entry. I am happy to teach biology at A Level.

I have supported students through their medical school applications including medical school entry tests, personal statement advice and feedback and interview advice.
My lessons are planned around my student’s individual needs and situation. This will include establishing any learning difficulties, weak areas, the volume of work that needs to be covered and the amount of time that the student has to offer. I aim to make my lesson plans flexible but effective.

For GCSE and A Level, I will start by guiding the student through carefully selected problems using a step by step approach to find the answer, this has the dual purpose of encouraging a problem-solving approach to answering questions and also provides the student with a worked solution that they can use for revision purposes. I will then work through past papers seeking out specific questions to target any weak areas. Exam technique (including working under timed conditions) and coping strategies play a significant role in my lessons.

For school entrance examinations, I will start by guiding them through common question types until they are very familiar with format of the exams. When they are familiar with the format and confident enough to work independently I will then support them through sitting papers under timed conditions.

Assisting students through medical school applications will be carried out online. Medical school interview support (panel based interviews and MMI practice) will be carried out via Skype.

Most of my students are taught on a weekly basis for 90-120 minutes.
