Information about Madeleine
I am a recent graduate of University College London, of English Literature, where I achieved First Class Honours. Over the past four years, I have gained experience in speechwriting, copywriting, and workshop facilitation for the charity/campaign Everyone`s Invited, which teaches about personal safety and sexual well-being in schools. I have written reports for the Ministry Of Justice regarding the rights of sexual violence survivors in the UK, and their access to reporting. I write short fiction, and plays, as well as interviews & culture and opinion pieces (Sondr.io, The Human Perspective, Era Arts and Culture Journal). I write and perform stand-up comedy across London, recently being a guest performer at the Earls Court Comedy Festival. More recently I am venturing into screenwriting & writing for television.
As a tutor, my priority is instilling intellectual confidence in my pupils. To me, this is the most important way that students can develop a long-term enthusiasm for studying literature, as well as a motivated approach to their studies. I feel this is sometimes absent from classroom teaching, which can be impersonal and mechanical. I have ADHD, so I understand what it means to feel inadequate, or incapable, within the classroom context. For me, an approach to educational material is inextricably bound up with matters of personal confidence and self-esteem. My classes are very discussion-based and I try to give students the confidence to trust their own emotional and aesthetic responses to the poems, plays, and works of fiction that we analyse.
