Information about Lauren
I am currently completing a Master`s degree at the University of Oxford and am a recent Biological Natural Sciences graduate from the University of Cambridge. I have a record of straight A*- A grades at both A-level and GCSE. I want to tutor biology, and chemistry to the incoming generation to inspire them to pursue science through their later education.
I aim to tailor tutoring session to the individual student, using their exam board specification as a guide to determine where to focus. My teaching style uses various visual learning techniques to engage the student and support explanations of more complex topics. Alongside this, I use quizzes and challenge questions to track progress and highlight any areas where more support may be necessary. I hope to provide fun, engaging, educational tutoring to help students achieve their full potential.
Availability: I am available to tutor from 6pm-10pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I have tutored 8 students over the past two years in Biology and Chemistry, preparing my students for both mocks and final examinations. I aim to follow my students throughout the academic year to give them continuity and so I can best assess their progress. My students often send work to be marked or ask for set questions which I provide feedback on at the start of the next lesson. I find this helps target our work in the sessions - working on specific goals individual to each student.
Further, I have worked in a school for the past 8 months as a Learning Support Assistant. This has given me experience teaching some science content at the GCSE and A-level standard. In this role, I have supported students in lessons and ran several 1:1 academic science catch up sessions to bring students up to speed with class content.
Additionally, I have experience tutoring KS2 mathematics to small groups of students from Kings Hedges Primary School. During my time with Kings Hedges, I worked with small groups (6-7) of students to support their learning and extend their understanding of the class content. I set challenge questions and puzzle activities for the students and would work through solutions with them to develop their understanding. Further, I would help explain the class exercises and mark answers for the students, giving feedback for what they did well and where they could improve.
